A few weeks ago we reported a story about the petition to make mixtapes considerable material for Grammy nominations. We’re happy to deliver the news that the petition was taken seriously, and Thursday (June 16) The Academy announced that “stream-only” projects will be in consideration for the Grammy Awards, effective immediately. Most people are thanking Chance The Rapper for not only being the inspiration for the petition in the first place, but also making history with his last mixtape “Coloring Book“. It was the first project to hit Billboard’s Top 200 albums chart without any sales. This is a major victory for music, but even more-so for the R&B, Hip-Hop, and Rap community that has been showcasing their skills via mixtape for over the last 15 years. It’s official, mixtapes are the new albums of this generation. Chance even took to Twitter to speak on this recent game-changer.
